Figurnye podveski iz egipetskogo faiansa iz raskopok nekropolia gorodishcha Artezian v Krymskom Priazov'e [Figured faience pendants found during excavations at the site's of Artezian necropolis]
The author presents finds of Egyptian faience in burial complexes of the Artezian necropolis in the Crimean Azov region, mainly from shoulder-type graves dating back to the 1st–2nd centuries CE. Egyptian faience items were essential to the burial inventory. The unusual nature of faience as a material, its characteristic color transitions — from greenish and bluish to yellow, less often reddish tones — are attractive to viewers. The images referring to the Egyptian ritual practice magically and aesthetically affected local residents, who widely used Egyptian faience items in making necklaces, decorating clothes and creating hairstyles. A variety of large pendants with ancient Egyptian images served as amulets for children and accompanied them after death to the other world.
