Memfis v rimskoe vremya kak administrativnyi tsentr i stolitsa noma [Memphis in Roman times — administrative centre and nome capital: a survey of papyrus sources]



The issue of traditions and innovations is crucial for the period Egyptian history when this region was a province of the Roman Empire. The author chooses this issue as a frame for analysis of papyri documents about Memphis — one of the most important urban centres of Egypt since the Old kingdom. Among these papyrus sources there is a group of documents that belongs to an archive deriving from an official department of the Roman administration in Memphis. Investigation of these documents is a key for the history of Memphis in the Roman period.
